Contractual Terms

Minerva Chambers accepts instructions under The Standard Contractual Terms for the Supply of Legal Services by Barristers to Authorised Persons 2012 as referred to in Rule rC30.9c of the BSB Handbook (click here for terms). Should those terms be unacceptable then we are willing to discuss the COMBAR terms (click here for terms) in the alternative.

Should you wish to discuss alternatives to the new standard terms please discuss with the barrister you are intending to engage.

VAT

Each barrister is VAT registered where they are required to register. Please request the relevant details.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

All practicing barristers in Minerva Chambers maintain (as a minimum) professional liability insurance provided by the Bar Mutual Indemnity Fund, managed by the Bar Mutual Management Company, 90 Fenchurch Street, London EC3M 4ST. Territorial coverage is worldwide, subject to the terms of cover of the Bar Mutual.

Fees

We work in a different way: whilst we can, and do, work on an hourly rate basis we also offer capped fee and fixed fee options for projects, advice and outsourcing. This allows clients to know in advance the costs of any work to be carried out. Some of our work involves overseas travel and we will need to agree specific costs with you in relation to such travel including those which relate to hotels, air fares and transportation and per diem expenses.

Please contact the barrister that you wish to instruct in order to obtain a written fee quotation. [ rC159] Please note that we do not undertake legal aid work.

Timing of work

We undertake a wide variety of work for a variety of clients and there may be a difference in timing between matters which involve litigation eg: because they involve third parties, courts and other dispute resolution venues and those which are advisory matters. This is something that you should discuss with your barrister prior to instructing them.
